Girlicious Recap With Jenna: Vocal Expressions

Natalie flipped out during vocal training last week, but she survived another elimination -- it was finally Jenna's turn to go home after barely squeaking by the week before. Get Jason C.'s recap, and Jenna's take on her Girlicious experience and her exciting new opportunities. Plus, Jenna sings part of her new single for us!

The Game: Dating Ups and Downs, Plus Serena Williams!

What'd you think of last night's episode of The Game? We felt like the show got a little off track this week. Sure, we loved watching the gang date new people (including guest star Serena Williams!), but the huge Kelly/Jason rift of last week was just a blip on the show's radar -- and last week's episode left us hanging! Here's hoping the show picks up their story next week. In the meantime, the feuding pair took a backseat to Malik, Derwin, and Mel's dating ups and downs, which were also a lot of fun.

First, there's Derwin. He just isn't having much luck as a single guy. But it's kind of his fault -- he's trying to be Malik, and the player ways aren't working for him. Last week, that girl in the club saw right through his champagne and smooth talking, and this week's not much better. Just as Derwin finally gets closer to his latest lady, he lashes out at her when he hears about her dating history. Hasn't he learned by now to stop hiding behind the tough-guy facade? Until he can be real with the women he dates, Derwin's not going to get very far.

Mel, too, is dating, but not very enthusiastically.

She's not too excited about her date with Jason and Kelly's pal Chad, and it only gets worse when he tells her she was pre-approved. Hey, he's a busy guy -- he doesn't have time to screen dates! Mel bristles at that, telling him that she's just as busy -- she's in med school! And she works at a diner!

Meanwhile, Malik scores a date with Serena Williams, but she's so high-maintenance she makes Mel look laid-back. Before you can say "thirty-love," Serena's putting all her efforts into classing up Malik's image. His jeans-and-bling attire is replaced with a sleek suit, and his pals don't make the cut for this new look and lifestyle. Serena really crosses the line when she tries to take over Malik's charity efforts at a Sunbeam meeting, infuriating Tasha.

What'd you think of the episode? Did you miss Kelly and Jason's heavier issues? What'd you think of Serena Williams on the show? And whose dating storyline was the most entertaining?

Casting News: Justin Hartley and Joanna Garcia Stick With The CW

Lots of CW news broke this morning, so let's kick off the week with a fix of casting scoop!

Justin HartleyFirst of all, Justin Hartley news! The Green Arrow will be making a move this fall -- Zap2it reports that Smallville's Justin Hartley is joining the cast of a new CW pilot, "Austin Golden Hour." The medical show differs from Grey's, House, and the rest because it's a real-time drama focusing on the 60 minutes immediately after an incident. While there's already a slew of medical dramas on TV, The CW has never offered anything in this genre before, so we have hopes that this'll be a little different. We would've liked to see a Green Arrow spinoff, but we'll take Justin in whatever form we can -- how about you?

In more CW casting news, Joanna Garcia (who played the dim but lovable Cheyenne on Reba) will join Michael Cassidy on "Filthy Rich Girls." Her new character will be a few rungs higher on the IQ ladder -- Garcia has nabbed the lead role, a Yale-educated gal who's tutoring a pair of spoiled Palm Beach siblings.

So what do you think of these casting developments? Are you excited to see Justin Hartley donning scrubs in the operating room, or will you miss him on Smallville? Reba fans, are you psyched for more Joanna Garcia? Let us know in the comments!

More Michael Cassidy on The CW!

Michael CassidyWe can't get enough of Michael Cassidy here at The CW Source, and it looks like The CW feels the same way. The two-time veteran of CW shows (first as creepy Cliff on Hidden Palms, then as the doomed Grant/Julian Luthor on Smallville) will be back again this fall on Filthy Rich Girls! He'll play the boyfriend of lead Joanna Garcia.

What do you think about this new development?

Gossip Girl Spoiler: Nate's Got Someone New...

The latest Gossip Girl spoiler seems way out of left field! Don't click through if you don't want to know...

Nate and... Vanessa!?JustJared.com has pics of Nate kissing VANESSA. What!? We thought we'd see him canoodling with Jenny, not Ms. Alterna-Brooklyn! Is there an odder couple than polished Nate and funky Vanessa? We think not... but maybe that's what's drawing Nate to her. After all, he's been bored with Blair and the whole Upper East Side lifestyle, so maybe Vanessa represents a (huge) change of pace. What do you think -- are you excited to see Nate and Vanessa give it a go, or do you think they're way too different?

The Results Are In: Congratulations, Dean Winchester!

The results are in from the Men's Division Final of the CW Source Hottie Bracket, and demon-fighter Dean Winchester emerged on top. Dean, we know you think you're adorable -- now it appears the majority of our voters agree. Congratulations!

Dean won it all! We're happy for Dean, if only because he's been having such a tough time recently -- his father died to save his life, his brother died in his arms, and he decided to trade in his soul to bring Sam back. He's only recently realized that he's not so happy about the idea of going to Hell and, worse yet, becoming a demon. At least he's got the CW Source Hottie title to console himself while he tries to figure out how to break that deal!

Of course, the competition was the fiercest Dean had ever faced -- he was not only going up against his ridiculously yummy brother, Sam, he was competing against himself, as a part of the fabulous Winchester duo. It was a close thing -- the Brothers Winchester took an early lead, but in the end, Dean himself emerged on top.

This hard-fought competition was much more fraught with tension than we'd imagined. We had no idea we were courting such controversy when we came up with what we thought was a fun, frothy little game! Some of you bridled against the thought of having to choose a brother, when the pair of them together is what makes the show so compelling. Others bristled that you could love the show and see the interaction between the boys as key, while still finding one brother hotter than the other. We had flame wars over BiBro correctness, fervent pleas that we think of what's best for the show, fans worrying that poor Jared must feel so neglected, and others yelling at us that we never should have put the guys up against each other at all.

Dean

We get that you're rabid fans of the show -- so are we. It's a fantastic piece of television, and we're happy to spread the Supernatural love. But let's keep it friendly! After all, we're all here because we love the show, and that love trumps any brother vs. brother controversy, right?

Congrats to Dean -- may he bask in his new CW Source Hottie award this weekend!

Reaper Meets the Acid Queen

The boys of Reaper are after a vicious soul who drips acid and burns the faces of women who are more attractive than her. Ouch! On the upside, since she goes after beautiful women, so the boys get to surround themselves with lots of eye candy. Why so glum, guys?

It might have something to do with finding out their perfect neighbors are actually demons. Sock is all for moving out immediately, but Ben and Sam take a slightly more practical approach -- let's just avoid them! Steve and Tony will not be ignored -- they demand an explanation. Sam says they need some space, Ben pulls out the "It's not you, it's me" line, and Sock.. well, Sock wishes they'd done this all via email. Classy!

After several un! comf! ortable! run-ins in the hallway, the parking garage, etc., Steve and Tony finally corner Sam. What did we do? It's not what you do, it's what you are, he says. Steve and Tony are aghast: Homophobes! No, no, not that, Sam insists -- it's the demon thing. Even worse, say Steve and Tony -- you're racist! Or, speciesist! Or fallen-angel-ist! Whatever you call it, it's just not fair!

Sam feels awful about this -- especially when Steve saves him from crazy acid soul by appearing in his demonic form.

Sam tracks Steve down and tries to apologize, but Steve doesn't want to hear it -- at least, not until Sam lets slip that he regularly talks to the Devil. Steve and Tony knew Sam was a Reaper (they play racketball with Gladys), but the big guy doesn't usually chat with the help. Suddenly, all is forgiven.

And a good thing, too, because Tony's day job as a PR flack gets the guys into a party that our acid-squirting demon will be stalking. Unfortunately, Andi is meeting them there, and she gets put in the demon's crosshairs. The guys manage to swoop Andi up in a "borrowed" car, but the demon causes a crash, and everyone is hurt. Still, Sam catches the demon (with bubbles, not less), and everyone survives. Unfortunately, he's not willing to put Andi in that kind of danger again.

About Andi: She FINALLY admitted to Sam that she likes him -- like, LIKES him likes him! The pair share a sweet kiss, but then a phone call from Cady (Sam wants to break it off with her before he starts anything with Andi) and the aforementioned acid queen interrupts the love fest. After that, Sam wants to protect Andi as much as possible, so he won't tell her the truth about what happened -- and he won't let her into his life.

That's not even the biggest shock of the episode -- after all the drama, Steve ushers Sam into the apartment -- and into a secret room. This is hidden from everyone, Steve says -- the Devil himself can't hear us in here. Now -- what say we talk a little revolution?

Smallville: Bring the Angst!

Smallville really ladled on the angst this week, didn't it? There was Clark's fear of flying, Kara's guilt and sacrifice, Lana's horrible fate, and Lionel losing it entirely as he tried to get Clark, Chloe, ANYONE to listen to him. No one ended this episode happy -- and it looks like things might get worse from here!

Brainiac and Kara

Of course, you can't really be surprised when the episode opens with a visit from Brainiac -- he's never good news for the residents of Smallville (or Metropolis). Brainiac wants Kara to come with him for some unspecified, but probably nefarious, reason. When she refuses, Brainiac vows she and Clark will rue the day. Uh-oh.

Kara wants to prepare for the inevitable confrontation with Brainiac by teaching Clark to fly. Ohhhhhhhkay, we sort of get where she's coming from, but we're more inclined to agree with Clark -- maybe we should concentrate on finding the fiendish computer first, and THEN worry about Clark's failure to become airborne.

Unfortunately, Brainiac tracks down Lana first. He scrambles her brain somehow, so she's got cloudy eyes and is completely under his control.

Clark and Kara are devastated -- even more so when Brainiac sneers that Lana is in immense pain, but she's unable to do or say anything about it. Human science can't help her -- but he can cure her without breaking a sweat. He'll do that if kara comes with him. Kara agrees, and they fly off together into space. There's an explosion out among the stars... and then who knows what? Lana is still incapacitated, Clark is helpless to save her, and Kara is gone.

On the Luthor front, Lionel panics when Lois confronts him with pictures of Patricia Swann's corpse -- she's missing her locket, and there's evidence it was removed by force. Lionel knows there's a key in there, and he knows what it's for -- because he's got one just like it. The members of Veritas, who were trying to find the Traveler (we call him Clark), had information that told how to control this alien visitor. Because that information would allow the user to effectively rule the world, they locked it up in a vault in Zurich. You need two keys to open it, and Lex has one of them. Patricia Swann had the other. Now Lex has it.

Unfortunately, Lex's little stint running around his own brain after he got shot in Detroit has jogged loose quite a few memories -- he remembers finding out about Veritas, seeing the keys, and overhearing Lionel, Mr. Queen and Mr. Teague talking about the Traveler and ultimate power. He doesn't know who Clark is yet, but he's getting close -- and it looks like he's going very, very bad. Lionel desperately rushes around trying to warn Clark or Lana or Chloe about the danger, but they're not inclined to listen to him after he pulled that stunt with the Krypto-cage last episode. Uh oh...

What did you think? What happened to Kara and Brainiac? Can Lana be saved? Is Lionel really trying to help? What will Lex find in the vault? Talk about it in the comments!

Rumorville: Is Tyra Tired of Top Model?

The drama surrounding America's Next Top Model continues -- and we're not talking about feuding contestants. Nope, this time, the buzz is that Tyra and Mr. Jay are on the outs, and that Tyra is considering handing over hosting duties to another supermodel.

OK! magazine has the dish on the Tyra/Mr. Jay fracas: "[Tyra] thinks [Mr. Jay] has become a diva and is ungrateful to her for making him a star," OK! reports. "The way she sees it, it’s thanks to her that he now has a makeup line, a show on Style Network and hosts Canada’s version of Top Model.”

MSNBC's The Scoop says things have gotten bad enough that Tyra is thinking of ditching her hosting duties: "“She’s really throwing all her weight behind her talk show,” a source familiar with “The Tyra Banks Show” told the site. “She’s putting lots of pressure on her staff to keep her show on the map. She had Barack Obama on, she had Hilary Clinton on — she got a taste of playing with the big boys and now ‘Top Model’ seems to detract from her big plans.”

What do you think? Would you watch ANTM without Tyra? Do you believe the rumors about dueling divas? Talk about it in the comments!

Beauty and the Geek Breaks Some Bones

First, the good news: Beauty and the Geek returns to its regular format this week, with Beauties and Geeks pairing up to take on the world. Whew – the Beauties vs. Geeks format had some high points, but we felt it messed with the premise of the show too much. We’re glad they’re going back to their roots.

Now, the bad news: The show decided to leave us with a superfluous cliffhanger, which annoys us to no end. The show already has plenty of drama – why manufacture fake drama with the “to be continued…” ending?

But first, the challenge. One member of each team had to go over to the enemy camp – where they discovered if their adopted team lost, they’d be out. This took Chris and Jillian aback, and made the Geeks really sad that one of their more effective members had gone to the other side. Jillian? She seems sweet, but wasn’t much of an asset. Even perpetually sunny Greggie couldn’t think of anything positive to say about her.

The two teams competed at flag football, and boy, did we find a lot to annoy! First off, the Geeks got all cocky – we’re competing against a bunch of girls! It’ll be easy! Yeah, guys – gender doesn’t count as much as skill, and some of those girls have skill in spades, while some of you guys… not so much. Sure, Tommy was unstoppable, but poor Jim had no idea what he was doing.

And then there was Joe… Cowboy Joe, you annoyed the crap out of us this week. He seemed to think because he knew football terminology, he should be in charge. No one cares what the words mean -- they just want to play the game! Then he turned into a raging diva, ordering Jillian around, ignoring her when she did what he asked, and then yelling at her when his improvised play didn’t work. Finally, he got frustrated when others stepped in to take control -- “What about the chain of command?” he yells. Joe, your way isn’t working. Let someone else try.

We were amazed at how physical this game of flag football got -- people were shoving, tackling, and dropping like flies! Poor Matt -- Tiffany tripped him up, and he ended up breaking his shoulder! Everyone felt awful, but he came back to applause and vowed, “Break my bone, but you’re sure as hell not going to break my spirit.” Awwww.

In the end, the Geeks lost, and Jillian was sent packing. Plus, one more Geek would be gone – but not in the usual rapid-fire elimination challenge. Nope, it was time for the Beauties to pick the Geeks they wanted to partner with, and the last one standing would be out. We were left with overbearing Joe and creepy Jonathan standing alone. Which one will stay? We’ll find out next week!

Girlicious: Vocal Expression

Does this ego make me look fat?/Egos have been inflated to the point of divadom in the Girlicious pack. As Robin Atin points out, there's a difference between good diva and bad diva. We got a taste of both this week.

Good Diva: Jenna. While we were put off by her explaining to Carrie that in the previous challenge, "(she) was off the chain, don't even trip shorty," and her insatiable desire to make and eat a giant bowl of puppy chow made us a little nauseous, the girl can sing.

Bad Diva: Natalie. Excuse us, but being pretty is a talent? What! She and Chrystine need to get smacked upside the head with a sense of humility and modesty because their "we're prettier than you" act is getting old and isn't cute in the slightest. Besides, if their heads get any bigger there won't be room for them in the group.

Due to Natalie's sense of entitlement, we weren't surprised when she stormed out of her group's rehearsal with Kenn Hicks because she threw a temper tantrum about not getting the lead vocal part that she wanted. We were, however, surprised that they let her stay in the group. We can't wait for the day she gets thrown to the curb.

Amid all of this, Charlye was going through a hard time being away from family. We learn that her father passed away while she was on a trip and she is still dealing with that loss. Kenn sensed her breaking down and gave her an extra hour of one-on-one rehearsal time, which proved valuable since Charlye was able to impress the judges in this week's elimination challenge.

Tiffanie had already won immunity at this week's vocal competition so she was safe and sound. Carrie, Natalie (blah) and Nichole were also good enough to make it past the bottom two. This left Jenna (and her bangs) and Chrystine up for elimination. We would've been happy to see either one of these girls go home, but in the end it was Jenna who would hang her boa.

What did you think of this week's episode? Do you think being pretty is a talent?
