The Sourcies Plays Favorites with Best Recurring Character

You know we love our stars on The CW, but sometimes it's the people we don't see every week that make a show shine. With that in mind, we've got a passel of familiar faces nominated for Best Recurring Character. Take a look:

We're winding down the competition, so this poll will close MONDAY, JULY 19 Wednesday, July 14 at 11:59pm Central. (Sorry -- I'm apparently really looking forward to Comic Con, because I jumped a week ahead on my calendar.) One vote per person. Feel free to share this poll with all and sundry, but send folks back to us to comment.

And congratulations to The Vampire Diaries, which won the Biggest Surprise category with the revelation that sweet little lip-locking Elena was actually fiendish, finger-chopping Katherine. Chuck's disappearance on Supernatural was a close second.

Julie no, I really don't take your comment like a personal insult and please forgive if my comment was taken in bad way too, but maybe is because I'm not a english speaker (I speak in spanish) so probably I can't express myself naturally as like I want.
Now, the only thing that I was trying to say here is that sometimes what people say in fans sites reflect the perception that a few fans have for others fans or the show itself, and I mentioned some examples of that.
The Twilight thing it's just a simple perspective that I have, just my personal position, and nothing against the show or the fans, and I based, since I mentioned previously, in what I have read in the fans sites, and also I clarified that I knew that not all the fans of VD were doing these comparisons.
And finally the only thing that I want to say was that I don't support or reject the VD show because I want to wait for another season because I didn't want to follow a show that was in that direction, 'cause I love the original storylines.
By the way, it's great find persons here with you can talk without need of silly insults. If a rivalry begins between both shows for seeing who has more audience or who is better is doesn't mean that the persons have to insult the shows, could exists a healthy competition. This polls need to be used as a lesson to all the SPN fans to wake up and continuing supporting our show now that exists competition because a kind of bored to be the only best show jejeje

@Andrea

It seems you've taken my comment as a personal insult towards you, not something i intended. All i was trying to do was to stop this argument between VD and SPN fans. Now it seems to have turned into some sort of attack you're inflicting on me about Twilight.

Honestly, my intention for the post wasn't to explain how VD is different to Twilight. The post wasn't centered on how VD is different to Twilight. I was defending that although VD is beating SPN is doesn't mean SPN is worse or that VD is better. I was stating that VD has a bigger fan base, from which i continue to explain is NOT because of Twilight.

So, I don't know about you but the only one that seems to be pinning VD and Twilight against each other is you.

Secondly, I was not targeting SPN fans when i said 'can't we appreciate that other shows are good too' or something along those lines. I didn't mean it as an insult towards SPN fans. It was for the people who were badmouthing both SPN AND VD.

Now from your response, you seem like a smart and mature person who may have taken my previous post in the wrong way, or possibly personally.

So i REPEAT, it was a peace comment. Meant to provoke peace. As is why i put "*peace*" at the end of my comment. Okay?

*Peace*

@ Laura
BTW, thank you. I know you're biased in your response but it seems that your the only one that understood what i was trying to say.

TVD was better than SPN this season. Deal with it.

Team Anna!

Mischa I read the Message Boards from VD, I talking based in the comments from the fans there, not based in a Twilight fan site.
The stereotypes I mentioned it because Julie herself mentioned the topic, and I answered my opinion to her on why were giving these stereotypes, giving as example the comments of the same fans. I know that not all the fans from VD make this comparisons with Twilight , but almost all the fan sites (in english or spanish) is the same thing. There is my source.
My first comment was directed to the fans of SPN who were questioning the fact that VD had so much success, I made clear my opinion about it and as consequence VD's topic went out to discussion, but here the people take it very personally, I don't know if is the American culture but I noted that the fans get into their own show too deep and they think just because someone comments about other show, they are against the fans from this show.
Finally I do not write here because the producers of VD (or others show's) are going to listen to the audience (though it is a shame that they not do it) I write because I live in a country with free expression, I can say wherever I want about any show, if is good, bad or a crap, but I not express comments with poor contained,I always try to explain my position to the others from my perspective, I'm not a capricious fan who just writes with the emotion, because I also read, listen and see before speaking on something.

@ Julie

I totally agree with you! You rock girl!
I personally don't like twilight but I'm a big fan of VD.
Anyway people as to stop this little "war" between SPN and VD.
Stop being bitter. VD is maybe a new show but it's a REALLY good show! Accept it!

First off, I hope you realize that the producers know perfectly well what direction Twilight heads in and what direction they want TVD to head in, so your insisting really has no effect on their actions. Also, your statement didn't really prove anything about fans creating their own stereotype. Perhaps the TWILIGHT fans feel the need to compare it with TVD, and you outsiders might feel a similar temptation, but nowhere on most TVD fansites have I ever seen the same dogged determination to always put the two together. Essentially, if you've been going on Twilight boards, seeing the cray-cray, and associating it with TVD fans because TVD was mentioned, you're the one creating the stereotype, and I truly hope that you can check your sources more thoroughly before making unfounded assumptions.

In your rebuttal to Julie's comments you said you didn't feel the need for these awards to prove that SPN is an awesome show. I completely agree, SPN was something I fell in love with from Ep 1 and it's grown into something amazing.

So why are half the SPN fans here ridiculously butthurt over something that shouldn't matter? It's like trying to burn down the NARAS for giving a Grammy to Taylor Swift that should've gone to someone else -__-

Julie I don't know if you are talking like that because for some of my comments, but if is for that, you has to read again, because, at least for me, I not say that VD is like Twilight, I said that the producer has to be careful to NOT go to that way. Besides I'm not talking like SPN fan because this polls is just for fun and SPN goes to S6, so why I need this polls to prove that Supernatural is a GOOD show? And be recognised? Well clearly that is recognised because is in second place. But that is not the point, you're wrong when said SPN fans not accept others good show's because I do, for example, I never liked Smallville, but it's a great show, 10 season, great actors, a lot of fans (well they have a good time), good storyline. But with VD i am a little skeptical and not because is VD, is because i am skeptical with all the first seasons, including Supernatural first season too, i am totally convinced that it was an excellent show when was able to survive the strike of screenwriters, because not all the shows did it.
Finally the stereotype about crazy girls who vote for the show and that stereotype with other stories of vampires is the fault of the same fans, look the message board of VD, Bella vrs Elena, who is best Twilight or Vampires Diaries?, favorite character of Twilight, Vampire Diaries vrs True Blood... You VD fans, make the stereotype, not us, so I insists, be careful because if the producers start to go on that way, the story can lose the originality.

I do not think it's fair to say that Vampire Diaries is winning the Sourcies simply because it rose from the hype of Vampires this year.

True that it has its fanbase originally because of the hype of vampires but the show does have originality, it does have soul and it does have compelling story telling. Just because it has vampires and JUST because the show was created by the CW network in hopes it would be a Twilight repeat DOES NOT mean it IS a Twilight repeat.

I mean, really. Twilight fans wouldnt rush to this show just because it has vampires, in fact they'll probably watch it just to criticise it. So it means alot that it hasnt been burnt to the ground because of Twilight fans who could be very critical with a rival vampire medium.

I know supernatural fans are not happy with the results right now and its completely understandable if your favourite show wasn't being recognised for how competent and great you know it is!

I could say the exact same thing about VD, I just am happy to see that VD is being recognised.

There is no need to bash VD, to claim it is the 'crazed, teen girls' voting and affecting the votes. There is no need to say that VD is a bad show, only winning because of its build in fanbase.

But you know what? from one loyal fan of a show to another, we're not all that different. We just support different shows, but can't we still appreciate that the other show is doing well because it is generally a good show? Im not saying VD is 'better' than Supernatural, it's not my place. I do know that there are more fans, probably because of the components of Vampires, But it doesnt mean VD is sterotypical or crap... it is just appealing to a wider audience. That's all.

*Peace*

Iva you point is good, I just said that VD needs more time because is another story about vampires, if VD is going to become in a show like Twilight storyline for example (I know is a book/movie, but it's about vampires too), soon we are going to see a lot of show's about that, and lose the originality, that's my point, and when I said is a hit of the moment, it's for the same reason, because honestly, the vampires storys now are a new bum and this can be a good point or a bad point, depends of the producers to see beyond the show and put something different from others shows because people can get tired with the time. And I not talking like a SPN fan, because I watch a few epis of VD and like half and hour waiting SPN, I talking like a a fan of show's (because I like watch a lot of them).

And Jess T, You read my mind, I'm totally agree with all your points and I just want to do emphasis in the point of "Fans who look beyond the pretty face or of the characters". It is real, I hate the people who just watch the show or movies, only because the actors are hot, and also this stupid fight about who is the most hot guy. The worse thing is that the producers listen to these fans and start to make hot scenes because they know that increases the audience and leave of side the interpretive quality of the actors. At the end, nobody gives them the credit of good actors, just the title "Sexys actors". SPN has fans like that, but lucky me, they are the minority jaja

Dora - Honestly, it's kool. It's nice to know there are devoted fans for Supernatural out there, but the show is doing fine on its own. It doesn't need the sourcies to be recognized so hopefully you don't get too worked up about it.

Actually I was like that (felt that way) in the beginning of this year's sourcies, but I truly did realize that Supernatural is great on its own and the sourcies polls are just superficial polls.

In an article Jensen said that he's glad Supernatural isn't like a Twilight craze. He said it's just strange to be suddenly all famous just because a bunch of teeny girls wanna jump him because of his looks. It takes true heart and a real story to pull the devoted Supernatural fanbase as it is and that's what matters to him more than being on every tabloid or newspaper report in the country.
Jensen said he met a man at the airport in his late 40's who suddenly beamed at him and told him that he watched the show every Thursday with his family because it was such an amazing show. Jensen said he was making Supernatural for them - those fans. Fans who look beyond the pretty face or of the characters. The shallow stuff irks Jensen but he's determined to make the show for the devoted fans like us who are just happy to see two brothers on the road encountering apocalyptic problems or internal family struggles. Against destiny. and battling tooth and nail to keep their family together.

So honestly the sourcies don't mean much in the grand scheme of things. Jensen Jared and Eric Kripke know how devoted the fanbase is and we even helped put together that ad in the Hollywood Reporter telling them thanks for 5 amazing seasons of compelling storytelling.
They were utterly shocked - but pleasantly surprised that we, as the fanbase, have showed our support through the years.

If Supernatural doesn't win this year for the sourcies, I'm not going to bawl down and cry that a vampire hype show that came out during the Twilight craze managed to beat them. Eric Kripke, Jensen, and Jared know that we love them.
5 years of a heartfelt story about Sam and Dean taking us through the backlands of America fighting and hunting things that go bump in the night. The bond between the two that made us fall in love with them from the beginning of season 1, how a wedge was driven between them in season 4 that broke our hearts, and the slow healing between the brothers in season 5 - That's enough for Kripke and that's certainly enough for me.

Sourcies or not, Supernatural has been a phenomenal show and just remember that these polls are superficial and just for kicks. Doesn't matter that Supernatural should've taken home the Best Villain, or Biggest Surprise, etc etc. Supernatural already won us over with 5 seasons of pure amazing storytelling.

Cheers to Kripke and co for a job well done

SN fans need 2 calm down real rep, lol. Dont be grumpy cause VD is winnin most of them.

TEAM ANNA!!

castiel isn't recurring, he's a regular in season five

@Andrea, actually, you'll find if you check that new shows hardly ever do well in the sourcies. We didn't see 90210/Privileged sweep the sourcies last year, SPN did, as it did the year before, followed by a trailing OTH - and both of these were long running shows with built up fanbases over the years. I think the fact that TVD has only had one year worth of hype and yet it can still win everything, really shows that it's not just a temporary hit, but it's going to stick around for the long haul, plus it's CW real 'baby', they'll never get rid of it (I hope).

@Char-- No, no. Some of the people voting are not looking at the category, but at their favorite show.

I love Supernatural... but the question isn't about the show... it's about a recurring "character"... and I thought Anna was awesome on Vampire Diaries... so of the choices here I would have to go with her... Supernatural fans need to chill...

Watch the Lost Boys. That's how vampires should act. The ones on VD are not even remotely scary.

Dora I'm glad you agree with me, and just one more thing, in these polls not win the best, win the popular show, because for me, after SPN (because we have to be honest, SPN has the best funniest moment)
Smallville deserved the second place, but not happened like that.
It's normal that VD is winning the majority of the polls because it's a new show, and it happens always with almost all the show in Season 1, I'm not following this show yet because, at least for me, needs more time to prove if the producers are capable to supporting the storyline in next seasons and become the show in the list of series with 6 or more seasons (like greats show as Friends, X-Files, Smallville, The Simpson, and of course Supernatural jeje) or just is a hit of the moment. I don't have anything against the VD fans or the show, it's just my point of view

yeah... Dora needs to get a grip... and a life...

Anna all the way!! I was so sad when she died, at first i wanted jeremy's uncle 2 die but then when K got him I was kinda sad =(

I wish Supernatural didn't list all three characters together because, while I love Castiel and I think he's brought a different aspect to the storylines, I don't like how the writers have written Bobby for a few seasons now. Bobby has, in my opinion, become a plot device, his character changes depending on the storyline (he'll take a position in one episode and then take a contradictory position on the same issue in another episode - it just depends on what that particular episode calls for, there's no consistent characterization).

Agree with Frei..Either way vampire diaries and supernatural are great shows..

I voted for Anna and I'm glad she's winning!! =) TEAM ANNA FTW

anna all the way. not only was she a great actress, but she really made he series have an interesting twist here and there. She had personality and the first time we see her, she is just another girl in the library, but as the season progressed she really changed into and interesting character. the shock of her death really effected cast. what makes a good reacuring charact is when they can effect the main characters life or change the way the story moves. Anna is my choice because she wasnt some one who stood in the background and was noticed once or twice... she had history with the salvator brothers. XD

Even if we do lose to a girl with VD, I mean on VD, SN is still awesome!! GO SN!

@Dora

Stop being so biased. It is clearly stated up there that the recurring character is 'the people we don't see every week that make a show shine'. And I don't get why you think TVD shouldn't be in the sourcies because it has only one season (so far)? You're apparently just being biased because you're an obsessive SPN fan. TVD prolly phased you cos now SPN's got a competition.

omg!!they killed anna!!y??
my vote goes for anna.and i hope that damon salvatore wins the best villian teen choice award.
Everyone vote for him ON:
teenchoiceawards.com
plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Team Anna!!

@Dora LMAO someone is bitter. Get over yourself. If they don't mean "Jacksquat" then don't get so obviously wound up over it. We know SPN fandom is loyal and culty and loves their show but VD is also just starting out and doing amazing, that should also be recognised and respected.

at first i didnt really like anna, but her and jeremy was sooo cute! i cant believe she was killed off!! :(

I voted for Grubbs and the others on One tree hill because the show rocks and who the hell likes Gossip Girl.

I love love love malese jow's character Anna!! I just can't believe they killed her character..

for me, i love anna, but castiel and chase are my favorits.

and, also, anna is dead, so she cant come back.

carter beizen! i love sebastian stan!

Supernatural all the way, I liked a few of the other characters but really, no one even comes remotely close to Bobby and Castiel.

Vote goes for Anna. Not because I'm a TVD fan, I really liked her character. But they really had to kill her off -_-

Castiel may have been listed as a regular, but he wasn't actually a regular... I mean what's the difference from Bobby's appearances?
Anyway, the vote goes to Supernatural, because all three of them ROCK!!!

SPN gets my vote on this one (but why the hell are there three characters listed? Were the nominees a three-way tie or something? That'd be weird). My second vote would've gone to OTH - I actually liked Rachel, even though she's a psycho. Chase is okay, and Grubbs... sings well.

But yeah, Supernatural's my vote. LOOOOVE me some Bobby. And Gabe. And Cas. =]

Supernatural's Bobby, The Trickster/Gabriel, and Castiel OF COURSE!!!

and i'm sorry (kind of), but WHY is Anna from The Vampires Diaries on the list? seriously?! first off, TVD only has one season so they SHOULD NOT BE IN THIS CATEGORY. and second, it's RECURRING CHARACTER, as in 'this character was in the other season(s)' not 'in a few episodes back in this season'. THAT'S HOW RECURRING CHARACTERS WORKS, DAMN IT!! seriously, these polls on here are BS!
whatever, i'm still voting for Bobby, The Trickster/Gabriel, and Castiel!!
RIP The Trickster/Gabriel. <3

and like Andrea said, Supernatural is a unique and original show, so really, these polls don't mean JACK SQUAT!!! you can take them and cram it for all i care! and at least Supernatural made it on it's own where it is today because of the cast and crew and all their wonderful, loyal, devoted fans! i mean, come on, they're on their 6th season starting this Fall. and our fandom is huge and awesome!! no one can beat that!!

I'm going to miss Gabe SOO much, RIP!

For him, SPN gets my vote. I hope he's not gone forever!

Team Archangel!

SUPERNATURAL OF COURSE, Castiel is the best, Bobby, he is awesome and Gabriel, come on, he is so funny, they do of SPN a unique show, different from another ones, SPN definitively is an original show

Castiel was a regular character..

LOL anna? really? really?
BOBBY CASTIEL AND GABE
SPN<3

Uh...Castiel was a regular, not a recurring guest star. Also, why exactly did Supernatural and One Tree Hill get three characters listed? You do realize the title of your poll is singular, right?

go anna we love u here in the philippines and we love vampire diaries so much,,,hope u can get back in season 2

Anna is absolutely amazing. Her death was so tragic, stupid uncle John.
Again, this poll is more subjective so unless you watch all these shows, you'll vote for the character you know best.

It's CASTIEL, motherf*ckers! He died *twice* and is still here!

This ones easily Anna..sucks that she died.

I love Anna but I had to give my girl Rachel the vote.

Anna all the way!

Bobby, Castiel and Gabriel on Supernatural, hands down!! The rest (minus Anna) either annoyed me or were entirely useless. Or both.

Well, I love Castiel, so I´m voting for SPN!!

i like TVD but i found the anna character to be a but annoying. i did however like john gilbert and elena's aunt.

there were more moments with Anna that they could show here too.

Vore for Anna. :)

come on supernatural had the best cast this season there is no dought about that so come on supernatural fans vote vote vote for supernautal
i love this show

Ivy.. EW. who the hell has voted for Grubbs and the others on one tree hill?!

RIP Anna =(

team Anna!

Who put Grubs in this category ? He was SO annoying !!!
My vote goes to Anna.

I went with Supernatural but technically, Castiel wasn't a recurring character, he was a regular.
